We just purchased RasterUSA and pushed it into production, and now terraserver is offline (hopefully temporary). Is there any way to set a timeout so if after 30 seconds or so, it gives up and I can provide the user with a friendly error message? I've discovered that the bitmap returned is null after it times out, but the timeout is way too long (4 minutes).

kuchinski,

Thanks for your question!

Currently there is no way to change the the timeout.
We will pass your question along to the developers for consideration in the next version.

Thanks!

Any update on this? It looks like TerraServer is having major issues today, with about 10% of my requests actually returning an image (usually after a goold couple minutes). I have a feeling that they are going to become less and less reliable as Microsoft puts more effort into their VirtualEarth product, slowly letting Terraserver die off. How can I protect my application from slowing to a crawl when TerraServer has problems like this?

Rob,

As we are only the 'pipe' to TerraServer there is not a way we can control their speed or reliability. You may have to go with a different data provider if TerraServer's performance continues to not meet your expectations.
