Is it possible to use different shape files that the TIGER files? We are looking at licenscing more accurate and complete data for the Chicago Area from Navteq. Could we use theie .shp files with Render USA?

dblake,

Thanks for your post!

With MapSuite you are not restricted to using TIGER Data; in fact Map Suite can work with any data in shapefile format.

As RenderUSA is designed to work with the TIGER Dataset's naming conventions and grouping of shapes, it would take some effort to customize RenderUSA for a different dataset. However, if you were able to group your data in the same fashion as the Tiger Data you would be able to use the majority of the original Render USA code.

Yes, you can use Navteq data with Render USA instaed of TIGER files. The only thing you will really need to changes is the code for labeling in RenderUSA to use the column names of the Navteq shapefiles instead of the TIGER shapefiles. For example in TIGER data the column for street name is FEName while in Navteq it may be StreetName. Once that change is made and you load the proper layers the rendering will work the same.
