Hi,

I am still using version 2.55 of the MapSuite Engine - due to the backward incompatibility of MapSuite 3 I haven't been able to move my code over yet as it will take a little while.

I am trying to get my map to overlay the Virtual Earth web service. and am getting somewhere but it is not quite correct. I understand the projection for VE is a Mercator projection? If so then how do I reproject the map to fit VE?

I've had a look in the MapSuiteProjections namespace and there is a Transverse Mercator projection and a Mercator projection?

Which one do I use and how?

If you code show me the code that would be most helpful.

Thanks,

Dave

David,

Mercator and Transverse Mercator are two different projections. Both projections are cylindrical and conformal. However, in the Transverse Mercator, the cylinder is rotated 90° (transverse) relative to the equator so that the projected surface is aligned to a central meridian rather than to the equator, as is the case with the Mercator projection.

About Transverse Mercator projection see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transverse_Mercator

In MapSuite 2, MercatorProj corresponds to +proj=merc in proj4
In MapSuite 2, TransverseProj corresponds to +proj=tmerc in proj4

So I think you should use the MercatorProj in MapSutie2.0 responding to VE projection.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks.

Just curious - if I'm still using Desktop edition 2.5x in a Windows application and I'd like to use the VE web service, what's the best way to get started?

Hi Gregory,

Desktop edtion 2x can not support Virtual Earth, so if you want to use VE web service, you're better update to 3x.

Thanks,

James
