Render USA 2.0: Build Flawless Maps in Just Three Simple Steps!

Render USA 2.0: Maps of the Entire U.S.Render USA 2.0 is the perfect add-in component for ThinkGeo's Map Suite Product line and reduces much of the work involved in building maps to just three simple steps. By using Render USA 2.0, GIS developers can build stunning, fully-functional maps of the United States with just a few lines of code. With Render USA, the perfect map is just three steps away:

  1. Open a project with either a Map Suite Desktop or Map Suite Web map on it.
  2. Add the RenderUSA class to your project.
  3. Enter a few lines of code in the page load and BeforeLayersDraw event and click the play button.

That's it! As you can see, Render USA was designed to save developers countless hours or even months of precious development time by automating the map building process and simplifying it to just three easy steps. In addition, Render USA is a full-featured .NET component that includes a complete collection of rendering objects. These rendering objects automate the process of displaying maps of the United States at any level of magnification, thereby saving time and money.

Render USA 2.0 ScreenshotRender USA also includes source code to the RenderUSA class module in both C# and VB.NET, which allows for easy customization. Render USA also comes with a robust 14GB dataset covering the entire United States and all of its territories. Handling the rendering logic for the various map layers (interstates, roads, lakes, etc.), the RenderUSA class removes much of the work associated with building a mapping application and frees the developer to focus on other areas of development.

Save yourself the long hours and painstaking work by adding Render USA 2.0 to your next GIS project. You'll build great looking maps in no time! Tech Tips

Get BitMap: Creating Large Bitmaps Using the GetBitMap Function

Want to create a paper map from the digital map you created in Map Suite Desktop? The GetBitMap Functionality of Map Suite can help you do this.

In this code snippet, we will first create a PrintDocument routine followed by a definition of our bitmap area "b," where 820 is the width and 580 is the height. Next, we will draw out our bitmap and the border surrounding it with the upper-left corner of the bitmap, starting at a point located at 200,120 in screen coordinates.

VB.Net

Private Sub mPrintDocument_PrintPage(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Drawing.Printing.PrintPageEventArgs) Handles mPrintDocument.PrintPage

Dim b As Bitmap = Map1.GetBitmap(820, 580, False)
e.Graphics.DrawImage(b, 200, 120)
e.Graphics.DrawRectangle(New Pen(Color.Black, 2), New Rectangle(200, 120, MapSuite.Misc.GetBitmapScreenWidth(b), MapSuite.Misc.GetBitmapScreenHeight(b)))

Now that we have defined our bitmap, we only need to create our Print Preview button with the code attached:

VB.Net

Dim PrintPreview As New PrintPreviewDialog
mPrintDocument.DefaultPageSettings.Landscape = True
PrintPreview.Document = mPrintDocument
PrintPreview.ShowDialog()

To add a legend to your paper map, please check out the Printing Sample application available in our Evaluation Version.

TIGER 2005 SE: Complete United States Geographic Data at your Fingertips in Convenient Shapefile Format

TIGER 2005 Second Edition offers GIS developers a convenient way to access the latest and most complete set of United States geographic data from the U.S. Census Bureau in the industry standard Shapefile (.shp) format. Supplied royalty-free by the U.S. Census Bureau and converted into the convenient Shapefile format by ThinkGeo, TIGER data is an essential ingredient in any GIS mapping project.

Although TIGER data is available free of cost from the U.S. Census Bureau as TIGER/Line files, TIGER/Line files are only provided in a native ASCII text format. In order to use TIGER/Line files in your GIS software applications, the files must first be converted into a Shapefile format, which is the required format for most mapping applications. With TIGER 2005 SE, ThinkGeo has already done the hard part for you and converted the TIGER/Line files into the necessary Shapefile format. All you have to do is just plug-in the data and you’ll be on your way!

TIGER 2005 Second EditionMoreover, TIGER 2005 SE can be organized into data separated by either county or state, depending on the dataset size and number of files a developer wants to use. Some of the geographic features of TIGER 2005 SE include the following: detailed state and county roads, files for all counties in the United Sates as well as Puerto Rico and Island Areas, landmarks, census tracts, county census divisions, traffic analysis zones, school districts, railways, hydrography, voting districts, urban areas, water polygons, zip codes, and much, much more!
